Beverly Hills' Only Subway Stop Points East, Toward a Show About Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills got its first subway stop on May 8, 2026. It sits at the city's eastern edge, at Wilshire and La Cienega, and the trains run east. The stop in the Golden Triangle is still under construction, and Metro's latest forecast has it opening in spring 2027. So for this season, the D Line works for Beverly Hills residents as a way out to Museum Row. One stop east, the best new reason to make the trip is a LACMA exhibition about the architect behind some of Beverly Hills' best-known rooms.

The stop at the edge of town

Wilshire/La Cienega is the western end of Section 1 of the D Line Extension. That section is 3.92 miles of new subway, and it gives Beverly Hills a one-seat ride from Union Station in about 21 minutes, according to Metro's opening-day announcement. Metro presents the station as the way into Restaurant Row. Nearby, it names the original Lawry's The Prime Rib, the Saban Theatre, the Fine Arts Theater, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the Beverly Center.

At street level, Metro's rider guide describes a landscaped plaza with elevators, escalators, bike lockers, extra lighting and public art. Metro Bike Share added a station there for opening day. There is no new parking garage at the station. The City of Beverly Hills station FAQ says Metro expects riders to use existing parking within a half-mile, and that passenger-loading zones near the entrances were still being explored. If you live in the flats, the stop is easiest to reach on foot, by bike or with a drop-off.

This week the trains are out, and they return Monday

Anyone reading this on Thursday, October 29, will find the station closed. Metro shut Section 1 for ten days so crews can tie the new line into the Century City segment.

What When Details
Wilshire/La Cienega, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Brea closed Fri., Oct. 23 through Sun., Nov. 1 Tie-in work with the Century City section
Bus bridge During the closure Runs between Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/La Cienega, with stops serving Fairfax and La Brea
Trains back Mon., Nov. 2 Regular service resumes at all three stations

All of this comes from Metro's October 14 community-meeting presentation, which lists 323.466.3876 and alerts.metro.net for service updates. For Museum Row, the timing works out. The trains come back the week before LACMA's most Beverly Hills-specific show of the year opens.

One stop east, a show about Beverly Hills

On Sunday, November 15, LACMA opens "Paul R. Williams: Architect for Living" in the Resnick Pavilion. It runs through May 31, 2027. Beverly Press reports that the show includes more than 120 drawings, photographs and other materials from Williams' archive. Many have never been exhibited.

Much of the show is about places Beverly Hills residents pass every week. According to the same Beverly Press report, it covers his Georgian Revival headquarters for the Music Corporation of America and his Moderne interiors for Saks Fifth Avenue. Both opened in 1938. A hospitality section looks at his renovations and additions to the Beverly Hills Hotel. Williams became the first Black architect licensed in the western United States in 1921. The show also covers his public housing, his veterans' housing and his work on LAX and the Los Angeles Civic Center.

The LACMA show is one of three. A companion exhibition is on view at the USC Fisher Museum of Art through March 13, 2027. A third opens at the Getty Research Institute on December 15 and runs through March 14, 2027. Of the three, LACMA's is the one a train ride from Wilshire/La Cienega reaches. The Wilshire/Fairfax station is at 6026 Wilshire Boulevard, and LACMA is at 5905 Wilshire.

What else closes before the next stop opens

Museum Row has more on this fall than one afternoon can hold, and several shows close in the coming weeks. The list below is sorted by closing date. Each of these ends long before the Beverly Dr stop is forecast to open.

The newest openings have more time left. At LACMA, Home of the Future, 1925–1985 and The Kitchen and Its Discontents opened September 27 and run through March 14, 2027. At the Academy Museum, The Horror Show and Zombies! opened September 26 and run through July 25, 2027. The Petersen is also showing A Legacy of Excellence: Masterpieces from the Mullin Collection in The Vault, which opened July 18. LACMA's David Geffen Galleries are now open to all visitors. They hold the permanent collection in more than 80 presentations organized around waterways, as LACMA's Unframed blog explains.

Two ways to use the stop this season

The Williams opening and the December closing dates line up well enough for a single outing. Here is one way to plan a Sunday around them.

  1. Sunday, Nov. 15, late morning. Take the D Line one stop east from Wilshire/La Cienega to Wilshire/Fairfax and walk to LACMA for the first day of "Paul R. Williams: Architect for Living" in the Resnick Pavilion.
  2. Same visit. See Picasso—Portraits in Disguise and Danse Macabre while you're there. Both close three weeks later, on December 6.
  3. Afternoon. Cross to the Academy Museum for We Are There or the Marilyn Monroe exhibition.
  4. Evening. Ride back west to La Cienega. Restaurant Row starts at the station, with Lawry's The Prime Rib, and the Saban Theatre is at 8440 Wilshire.

Tuesday afternoons are the shorter option. The Farm Habit Farmers Market sets up at the Wilshire/Fairfax station, 6026 Wilshire Boulevard. Its listing gives hours of 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the organizer says the market runs every Tuesday. Metro's station programming changes often, so check the listing before you go.

Meanwhile, on Wilshire at Beverly Drive

The stop that will bring the D Line to the Golden Triangle is now officially named Beverly Dr. The Metro Board adopted that name in May 2025, replacing the working name Wilshire/Rodeo. Its entrance will be on the southwest side of Wilshire near Reeves Drive. Metro's October presentation lists the entrance plaza, the escalators and stairs, and the elevators as current construction work. Section 2, which covers 2.59 miles, Beverly Dr and Century City, is forecast to open in spring 2027. Metro marks that date as subject to change.

Until then, these are the work zones near the Triangle, according to the same Metro presentation:

  • Wilshire median, Crescent Dr to Reeves Dr. Crews are building a landscaped median. One lane is open in each direction between Crescent and Beverly, and pedestrian access is maintained around the clock. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • North side of Wilshire, El Camino Dr to Crescent Dr. Tree planting along the sidewalk and in the medians runs through October. Expect temporary sidewalk closures and short lane reductions while trees are unloaded.
  • Wilshire between El Camino Dr and Rodeo Dr. Sidewalk and ADA ramp restoration, with the curb lane closed at times and pedestrian detours in place.
  • Maybourne alley, between N. Canon Dr and Beverly Dr. Asphalt restoration through October, with the first 50 feet or so north of Wilshire closed.

New trees, a landscaped median and rebuilt sidewalks are what will greet riders at Beverly Dr when it opens. Until spring 2027, the subway's front door for Beverly Hills is at La Cienega, and the November 15 opening of the Paul R. Williams show is one stop east.

Next spring, the Beverly Dr entrance near Reeves Drive will put a subway stop a short walk from Rodeo Drive and the rest of the Golden Triangle.
